Personal Philosophy Statement

My approach as DSW will be to support persons with developmental or intellectual disabilities based on respecting them as members of this community. Being a DSW means to support a person in many aspects of their life from childhood to adulthood.

I will assist in developing a personal development plan following the principles of the concepts of personal direct planning that look up theories of positive psychology and the promotion of happiness, optimism, life satisfaction, well-being, and gratitude.

The most important concepts for me will be the promotion of self-compassion, self-esteem, and self-confidence. Lastly, I will encourage living a life full of hope and social inclusion.

I will encourage the development of smart goals promoting self-determination. It will be very important to find out what the goals of the person supported are. I will work toward the accomplishment of these goals and encourage working harder for the goals that are the most difficult in terms of the ADLs that will promote independence and self-efficacy.

I believe that I am a very positive person and academic-oriented; during my professional career in another field, I was noticed to be very creative and problem-solving. The person that I will support will definitely have a fun time. I will support multiple outdoor activities, and sports events will be my forte. I am flexible and very patient to follow and respect persons choices and interests.

As DSW, I will empower the person that I am supporting to advocate for themselves. It will be very important to create trust and belonging in which the person supported feels confident to express his ideas and desires. I will do my best to support them in all their endeavors.

As DSW will be my commitment to reach out to the person and the support circle of support, especially to reach the allies that will produce a positive effect for the development of the goals by providing ideas and support.

It will be my goal as DSW to also support the family of the person supported. They will require support understanding methods and techniques to accomplish the goals that were set up for the person supported.

It will be my best interest to be professional and demonstrate my core competences in my practice, leadership and advocacy will be the pilar that I will encourage during my work as DSW.
